Getting Started

We all start somewhere. This is a good spot. Once you have purchased a mini lathe or a mini mill, you need to know what tooling to buy. These pages will help you make those decisions.

Mini Lathe User's Guide

When you're just getting started using your new mini lathe, you might not know your tool post from a fence post. Chris Wood has written Mini Lathe User's Guide, a getting started booklet that should have been included with your lathe. It describes all the controls and, more important, covers basic mini lathe operations, such as turning, facing, and threading. The Mini Lathe User's Guide is free online. You can read it or print it as a handy reference to use with your mini lathe. We also sell printed, bound copies.

The Mini Lathe User's Guide discussed on this page is not for LittleMachineShop.com HiTorque machines.

Mini Mill User's Guide

When you unpacked your mini mill, did you find the user's guide? Neither did we. Now Chris Wood has written Mini Mill User's Guide, a booklet that identifies all the mill's components; describes its controls; documents basic maintenance procedures, including gib adjustment, lubrication, and cleaning; and explains basic mini mill operations, including clamping, edge finding, drilling, milling, and surfacing. You can read Mini Mill User's Guide online or print it; we also sell printed, bound copies.
